Reflections on the JP Morgan Nashville Healthcare Leadership Summit

As the Chief Development Officer of Southeast Primary Care Partners, attending the JP Morgan Nashville Healthcare Leadership Summit provided me with valuable insights into the current market conditions and trends shaping the healthcare industry. While there were several takeaways from the summit, one that stood out was the importance of putting primary care physicians first in attracting and retaining talent.

During the engaging panel on attracting and retaining talent, Dr. Chris Chen (tag for LinkedIn) from ChenMed, highlighted the importance of prioritizing primary care physicians and "inverting the pyramid" to make them the top of the food chain, followed by specialists and then hospitals. This approach resonated with me as I recognized the critical role primary care physicians play in the overall success of our organization.

Attracting and retaining top talent is a priority for any healthcare organization. As the market conditions slow the pace of acquisitions for some provider services, primary care is only getting hotter, especially for those who have made investments in value-based care. By prioritizing the needs of our primary care physicians and providing them with the support they need, we can attract and retain top talent, leading to better patient care and overall success.

Another key takeaway from the conference was the importance of a care model deployed across the entire population, effectively reducing costs and improving quality across all ages and payor classes. We’re proud to offer this at Southeast Primary Care Partners. Our care model sets us apart from other organizations that micro-segment the market, and it allows us to succeed in both value-based care and fee-for-service systems simultaneously. Additionally, we give our providers an added layer of flexibility by encouraging them to provide care for all patients, regardless of age or insurance provider. We know that this flexibility is welcomed among providers who wish to maintain autonomy in who they treat, and provide services to the people in their communities, regardless of demographics or insurance.

The JP Morgan Nashville Healthcare Leadership Summit provided valuable insights into the importance of prioritizing primary care physicians in attracting and retaining talent. By doing so, we can empower our primary care physicians to provide better care to patients and drive better health outcomes, leading to overall success for the healthcare of all Americans.
